Wendell August Forge Tree Topper Review & Give-a-way ends 01/09/2011

Wow Christmas has finally come and gone already! It seems as if we wait for it for so long and then the hustle and bustle comes and goes so fast! I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday! We had a very nice Christmas, the boys were SO fun to watch this year!


Grady was especially funny as his eyes got so big and his voice so sweet as he opened things. He would just get sooooo excited about each thing he opened and had to show everyone! He loves his Fisher Price Dance Star Mickey and Jace wanted a really really big remote control car so "Santa" brought him a huge remote control monster truck!


Oh my, thank goodness we will be moving soon and will have a huge yard for him to drive it around in because it is definitely too big for the house and the dog!

Well I'm so excited to be back blogging/reviewing and can't wait to tell you about a wonderful company that I recently had the opportunity to work with! Skilled artisans hand carve each design and then hand hammer each piece into aluminum and other metals; then each artist leaves his or her own mark (or signature) on each piece!


So let me tell you about the Hammered Star Tree Topper ($49) that I was sent. From the picture on their website I just knew this would be so fun to add to our Christmas decor but little did I know just how beautiful this would be in person! It is made from aluminum and focuses on the beautiful hand hammering of their craftsman.


From the packaging to the actual item I am so impressed with Wendell August! I love a good presentation and they definitely hit it dead on with this product! The box that it arrived in is just gorgeous and classy.


The box has a hammered look to it just like the topper itself and their logo is in shiny silver lettering. When you open it up the topper fits perfectly in velour foam lining, so it arrives in perfect condition! I just love everything about it!!

Tillamook Cheese Review & Give-a-way

Who doesn't love some good cheese? Well I recently had the opportunity to review two kinds of cheese from Tillamook.


Tillamook which means "the land of many waters" has been around for over 101 years and is headquartered in Tillamook, Oregon. Millions of people visit the Tillamook Cheese Factory Visitors Center each year year making it one of the Pacific Northwest's top tourist destinations! Should you decide to visit Tillamook you can experience their cheesemaker's and packaging staff hard at work, touch the interactive kiosk screens to learn about their cooperative and products, smell the delicious aroma of freshly baked waffle cones, shop the gift shop and best of all, taste their award-winning cheeses, 38 flavors of ice cream and even grab yourself a grilled cheese in their Farmhouse Cafe!

Today Tillamook is the No.1 selling natural cheese brand in the Western U.S. and their cheese is available nationwide! Their cheese is made with only the highest quality milk from cows NOT treated with artificial growth hormones, and nothing artificial!!


Another awesome fact about Tillamook is that their Medium Cheddar Cheese was voted "Worlds Best Medium Cheddar" at the 2010 World Championship Cheese Contest! Out of 59 entries they scored a near perfect score of 99.6 points out of 100 crowning them the "Worlds Best Medium Cheddar"!

I was so excited when Tillamook sent me a package with several coupons towards free cheese, a cheese slicer, and the cutest heart shaped sandwiched cutter. So I found Tillamook in a very small nearby grocery store that only carried the 8 oz. chunks but had several kinds to choose from!


After browsing the many varieties, I decided to try the Vintage White Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese which is aged for over 2 years, the longest of all their Cheddars! Let me tell you that the long aging process of this cheese must be what gives it such a distinct flavor! It is a the sharpest of all their cheeses giving it a very strong flavor and crumbly cheese texture. I must say that I really enjoyed it. I let several family members try it as well including my kids and all of the adults liked it, but the kids didn't, which I expected! It would be wonderful paired with wine and crackers!


The next flavor tried was the Smoked Medium Cheddar Cheese which is aged for over 60 days and infused with natural hardwood smoke giving it it's delicious smoked flavor! This one was my favorite out of the two. My kids even enjoyed it! The other adults LOVED it! It has a really good smoked flavor and was really good paired with crackers! I would love to try it on a burger!!


Tillamook sells so many other varieties of cheese as well as butter and sour cream, ice cream, and yogurt! Their cheeses come in a variety of sizes from 3/4 oz snacks to the iconic 2 lb Baby Loaf. THE BEST GIFT YOU EVER GAVE...

So Christmas is only 10 days away, can you all believe that? I would love to hear "the best gift you ever gave" to someone! I think it would be fun to hear your stories!

I honestly can't think of a really awesome gift that I have given someone. Don't get me wrong, I love to give but I can't think of one really awesome gift that just comes to mind so I am going to tell you a story about my father-in-law and my mother-in-laws sister...

My father-in-law Jim has always been a diabetic and a few years ago he was in desperate need of a kidney transplant. Well my mother-in-laws (Jim's wife) sister came forward and did the unthinkable. She wanted to be tested to see if she was a match and sure enough, she was!

Some people wait so long on a transplant list before ever finding a match, and Aretha was just that! I don't think she thought twice about going forward with the surgery! What a wonderful gift she gave to Jim and after some healing and a few years later, today they are both doing very well! What a nerve wracking day that was for Craig's mom (and all of us for that matter) as two of her best friends, her husband and sister both underwent surgery as they removed one kidney from Aretha and placed it in Jim!

Now that has to be one of "the best gifts you ever gave" stories that I have seen!! Do you have a story about the best gift you ever game to someone? If so I would love to hear it. Maybe it's not as serious as Craig's dads story, but none-the-less I would love to hear it!

Jolly the Elf Book Review & Give-a-way...

We started a tradition a few years ago at Christmas time by bringing Jolly the Elf into our home! If you guys haven't heard of this Christmas story you must check it out!

Jolly the Elf is a beautiful Christmas story for all ages, now available as a children's book written by Jo Shepherd Ripley with illustrations by John C. Blackford.


Jolly is an elf who knew Santa was in trouble. How could he find time to make all the toys AND visit the boys and girls to remind them to be kind and on their best behavior? Santa wondered what in the world he would do!

That's when Jolly the Elf had a pretty good idea. He talked to Santa about having some of the elves visit the children's homes from Thanksgiving Day until Christmas Eve - before returning to the North Pole to help Santa and the other elves load the sleigh with all of the wonderful toys they made. "WOW, thanks Jolly," Santa said, "that is a fantastic plan!"

So there you have it, Jolly is an elf sent by Santa and brought into your home from Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve. Jolly is "magical" and can not be touched! We brought Jolly the Elf into our home 2 years ago and what a fun story this is to read to the boys. What fun it is to have Jolly keeping an eye on our kids and reporting their behavior each day to Santa! Not only does Jolly watch the boys he is also there for them to talk to! They tell him what they would like for Christmas, tell him why they deserve gifts, tell him why they think they are good or bad etc...

The boys get so excited when they get up each morning because Jolly is magical and "flies" to a new location for the day and they have to figure out where he is watching them from! I love that they believe Santa sent him as his little helper to watch over them and report back to him! It really makes them think twice about what they are doing, and when they are misbehaving we tell them "Jolly the Elf is watching you and will tell Santa if you're not good" and they change their attitudes in a hurry! Oh if Jolly could stay all year, ha!


We have really enjoyed this tradition and the boys never get tired of reading Jolly the Elf storybook! Every year we look forward to Jolly's arrival at Thanksgiving and are sad to say goodbye to him on Christmas Eve as we know that he has to return to the North Pole to help Santa load gifts and deliver them to children around the world!
