School has been in session for a few months now and finding the time to cook between sports, homework, and everything else we have going on can sometimes be hard. It's not always the cooking part that's hard, but figuring out just what to make for the whole family and finding the time to do it.
That's why I was excited to be able to try the new Progresso Recipe Starters Cooking Sauce. With Progresso Recipe Starters Cooking Sauces you will be able to create numerous home-cooked meals out of the five flavorful varieties available. Each one is unique, but will give you a jump start on meal planning!
I was excited to find out that Progresso created 80 recipes utilizing this new line of cooking sauces. If that's not inspiration, I don't know what is! 80 to choose from --awesome! You can find all of these recipes by visiting Progresso.com/RecipeStarters. Many of the recipes are family favorites, such as Bacon Mac n' Cheese, Chicken Pot Pie and Chicken Parmesan, my husbands favorite!
The sauces were inspired by the 5 "Mother" Sauces that form the basis of classical French cooking, including Bechamel, Veloute, Tomato, Espagnole and Hollandaise. Recipe Starters use a variety of ingredients and the best techniques to make sure you have delicious options when planning your next family meal.
The 5 varieties are:
1. Creamy Parmesan Basil
2. Creamy Roasted Garlic with Chicken Stock
2. Creamy Roasted Garlic with Chicken Stock
3. Fire Roasted Tomato
4. Creamy Portabella Mushroom
5. Creamy Three Cheese
We received the Fire Roasted Tomato and the Creamy Portabella Mushroom sauces and couldn't wait to incorporate them into a meal.
I made Broccoli-Cheese Chicken and Rice Skillet using the Creamy Portabella Mushroom sauce and it was so good. Here is the recipe...
Ingredients:
1 package (14 oz) uncooked chicken breast strips for stir-fry
1 can (18 oz) Progresso™ Recipe Starters™ creamy portabella mushroom cooking sauce
1 bag (16 oz) frozen broccoli, cauliflower and carrots, thawed
1 1/2 cups uncooked instant white rice
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (4 oz)
Directions:
In 12-inch nonstick skillet, heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Cook chicken in oil 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until chicken is lightly browned and no longer pink in center.
Add cooking sauce, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper; heat to boiling. Stir in vegetables and rice; sprinkle with cheese. Remove from heat. Cover; let stand 5 to 7 minutes or until liquid is absorbed.
I also made Easy Weeknight Chicken Parmesan using the Fire Roasted Tomato sauce and it was a huge hit, something I will definitely be making more of!
Ingredients:
8 oz uncooked spaghetti
1/3 cup Progresso® Italian style panko crispy bread crumbs
1/3 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, flattened slightly
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 can (18 oz) Progresso™ Recipe Starters™ fire roasted tomato cooking sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (4 oz)
Directions:
Cook and drain spaghetti as directed on package.
In large resealable food-storage plastic bag, mix bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. Shake each chicken breast in bread crumb mixture; set aside.
In 12-inch skillet, heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Stir in garlic; cook until garlic starts to brown. Add chicken breasts; cook 6 to 10 minutes, turning once, until browned. Pour cooking sauce around chicken; sprinkle chicken with remaining bread crumb mixture and mozzarella cheese. Heat to boiling. Cover; reduce heat to medium. Cook 5 to 8 minutes or until juice of chicken is clear when center of thickest part is cut (at least 165°F) and cheese is melted. Serve with spaghetti.
