Happy Valentine's Day with a little "Pinspiration"...

Are you guys crafty when it comes to Valentine's Day treats for your kids parties or do you just buy the already made up character ones from the store? With Pinterest and all of the cute ideas available I thought why not make our own v-day cards and treats for Jace's class this year, so we did.

We didn't do anything extravagant, but let me tell you what we made did turn out so cute! The things I am going to show you were cheap, easy and we had fun making them together.

The first is Jace's v-day cards. He's in 1st grade this year and isn't into anything too mooshy being a boy and all so we found the cutest fish bowl printable cards on Pinterest.

They read...

Dear Valentine,

"I'm so glad we're in the same school!"

(picture and printable download is found HERE courtesy of

What you need...

1. White Card Stock to print the fish bowl on.

2. A clear bag. I bought the cheapest sandwich bags I could find at Wal-Mart. They are just the fold over kind, no zip top.

3. A cute ribbon or tulle liked I used to tie the bag shut.

4. Goldfish crackers or something similar. I used Stauffer's Whales just because I found them in a big box. I just came across the same card with Swedish Fish candy, that would be adorable too!

I had Jace write his classmates name on the back and then sign his as well. Then we assembled them.

It was so easy --simply put the card in the clear plastic bag, then put a handful of gold fish crackers in front of the card so it looks they are a 'school of fish' swimming in the bowl. Then simply tie the top of the bag shut with the tulle or whatever you would like to finish it off.

That's it, easy peasy! A cute, fun and unique idea that offers something different than the regular Valentine's Day card and candy that I'm sure he will get enough of anyways!

I also volunteered to bring a treat to Jace' party. I've made things before that have taken so long and the results...well let's just say they looked cuter on Pinterest than they did when I got done attempting them!

That's not saying much though as awhile back I managed to forget to add the water to instant microwavable mac and cheese!! Don't believe me? I have a picture to prove it... talk about almost starting a fire --yes embarrassing, but hey I never did say I was a chef, ha!

So I found the cutest pink heart shaped rice crispy treats online. I made them with the original rice crispy recipe. Added in some red food coloring so that they were tinted a little pink. Mixed in some confetti hearts and then cut them out with a heart shaped cookie cutter, put them on a stick, put them in a clear sandwich bag and tied them with a ribbon to finish it off...

Can you say ADORABLE, cheap and easy!? My kids love rice crispy treats and I'm sure his classmates will too.

I hope this gives you all a little v-day "pinspiration"!  It really doesn't have to cost a lot or take a lot of time to make some fun memories with your kids while making homemade treats for special occasions!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!  ♥♥♥
