62 children enter a Children's Miracle Network Hospital for treatment every minute. Whether they suffer from common childhood afflictions like asthma and broken bones, or fight bigger challenges like birth defects or cancer, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide comfort, treatment and hope to millions of sick kids. In fact, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals treat one in 10 children in North America each year. Every day, member hospitals treat 16,000 children in emergency rooms alone and every hour, member hospitals provide surgery for 97 children! With your support Children's Miracle Hospitals provide 32 million patient visits for 10 million kids each year!
Every year, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals identify a child with a remarkable medical story from each state. These “Champions” serve as the face for the millions of children treated at Children's Miracle Network hospitals every year. These Champions and their families travel to Washington, D.C., and Orlando, Fla. on an official Ambassador Tour to highlight the vital work of children’s hospitals.

Meet Champion Ethan from my home state, Ohio!

Ethan

Doctors describe Ethan and his recovery from viral myositis with rhabdomyolysis as a “miracle.”
In 2010, doctors recorded Ethan’s creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels at the highest ever documented at the Dayton Children's Hospital. His high CPK levels were indicative of a rapid breakdown that can clog the kidneys and result in kidney failure. Ethan’s virus is the worst case ever documented worldwide and seemed unsurvivable.
Though the prognosis was grim, Ethan returned home after 33 days in the hospital, including 19 in the pediatric intensive care unit. Today, Ethan is fully recovered. He is an active teenager who loves spending hours perfecting his basketball skills and dreams of playing college sports for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Funds In Action

Funds contributed by CMN Hospitals purchased life-saving medical equipment including the total care bed, MRI machine and life support systems that Ethan utilized during his stay.
