Frankenmuth, Michigan --Our visit to the Bavarian Inn Lodge and Bavarian Inn Restaurant...

(We received a complimentary visit to the Bavarian Inn Lodge and Bavarian Inn Restaurant while working through

Happy Wednesdsay!

I'm so excited to tell you about our weekend in Frankenmuth, Michigan -- "Michigan's little Bavaria." I've never been to Germany, but seeing how beautiful Frankenmuth is and getting a feel of everything German, it definitely has me wanting to go! Frankenmuth is known for their famous chicken dinners and German entrees, eclectic shopping and entertainment and their rich historical culture all around.

Take a ride on a horse-drawn carriage, visit the Glockenspiel and authentic wooden covered bridge,  and sample Michigan's greatest selection of German beers all along 13 acres of beautiful riverfront.

We stayed at the gorgeous Bavarian Inn Lodge which offers 360 German themed guest rooms, 4 Indoor Pools (one is for adults only!), 2 Water Slides, 3 Whirlpools, a Family Fun Center with 18 Holes of Indoor Mini-Golf and over 100 Redemption Video Games. The resort also offers 2 Restaurants, a Meeting and Convention center for space up to 500 people and a lounge that offers free nightly entertainment. Our guest room was clean, the beds were comfortable and we loved having our own balcony that looked over the Cass River.

The boys' loved playing a round of putt-putt golf, swimming in the pools and getting Craig and I to go down the crazy water slides with them! The Bavarian Inn Lodge is very family friendly, but with the adult only pool and various places to eat and get drinks it's also the perfect getaway for couples! You're within walking distance of 75 unique Frankenmuth Main Street shops and attractions and the Bavariann Inn Restaurant.

I love the rich heritage of both the lodge and restaurant. Owned and operated by the "Bavarian Inn" Zehnder Family --the same family who's been serving the World Famous Frankenmuth Chicken dinners since 1928. The two now have 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation family members working in management. We had the pleasure of both dining at the restaurant and meeting Dorothy Zehnder who started the Bavarian Inn Restaurant with her late husband William "Tiny" Zehnder. Dorothy was so sweet to come out to greet us while we were dining and signed a copy of her cookbook 'From My Kitchen to Yours' for me! It features many signature Bavarian Inn Restaurant recipes as well as an 80 year collection of  Dorothy's family favorites, wisdom and stories over the years.

( I made Dorothy's Banana Drop Cookies with Banana Frosting out of the book and they were delish! Craig's not a huge sweet's fan and devoured them --they were that good!)

At the age of 93, Dorothy still works in the Bavarian Inn kitchen several days a week --I pray that I look half as good as she does at the age of  93 and have her all of her energy and spunk too! We enjoyed the food, our cute waitress who took great care of us and the boys loved the men walking through playing accordions giving you that authentic Bavarian feel.

We loved Frankenmuth and highly recommend the Bavarian Inn Lodge and Bavarian Inn Restaurant. We will definitely visit again and hope you do too if you haven't already!
